Why Psychological Screenings and Assessments with Washington Nutrition and Counseling Group
Diagnosing conditions such as ADHD, autism, and substance abuse can be life-changing because clarity and direction can help target mental health therapy and psychiatric medication management. At your initial mental health therapy and psychiatry appointment, our mental health and psychiatry providers will identify possible conditions, then refer you to our in-house psychologists for further evaluation. After the psychologist provides the testing, they will coordinate follow-up treatments with one of our mental health therapists and/or psychiatrists specializing in your condition for therapy and/or medication.
ADHD Screening
If you think you have ADHD, talk with your psychiatry provider at your psychiatry visit. They will most likely recommend an ADHD screening with one of our psychologists before prescribing ADHD medication. The screening process is performed over 2 visits through telehealth: an initial assessment and a follow-up session to review the results.
Substance Abuse Screening
Your mental health or psychiatry provider may recommend further evaluation for substance abuse to help direct your therapy and/or medication treatment plan. This is performed over 2 visits with one of our psychologists through telehealth: an initial assessment and a follow-up session to review the results. After evaluating the results, your psychologist will work with your mental health and/or psychiatry provider to develop a treatment plan.
Autism Screening
If you would like to have your child evaluated for Autism, first schedule a visit with one of our mental health therapists who specialize in Autism. They will recommend an autism assessment with one of our in-house psychologists. This is performed over 2 visits through telehealth; after evaluating the results, your psychologist will work with your child’s mental health and/or psychiatry provider to develop a treatment plan.
Bariatric Surgery Evaluations
An evaluation for bariatric surgery assesses the patient’s mental health, motivation, and expectations for the surgery. Insurance companies usually require this to determine if surgery is safe and appropriate for patients with obesity. You will meet with our psychologist twice for this evaluation. Our office will send the necessary documentation to your surgery center and/or insurance company.
Depression and Anxiety Assessments
The GAD-7 and the PHQ-9 are the 2 assessments we use to assess your progress during therapy and/or psychiatry sessions. The GAD-7 is a questionnaire that helps identify signs of anxiety, and the PHQ-9 helps screen for symptoms of depression. We recommend that you fill out these forms before or at your sessions to help direct your mental health therapy and/or psychiatry provider during your therapy sessions.
