Why Mental Health Therapy With Washington Nutrition & Counseling Group
At Washington Nutrition & Counseling Group™, our team of mental health therapists, psychiatrists for medication management, psychologists for psychological testing, weight loss medication providers, and dietitian nutritionists provides evidence-based treatments for individuals, couples, and families of all ages covered by insurance at our local office locations and by telehealth. Reach out to us today to take the first step toward improving your well-being.
Comprehensive Care
Our licensed therapists provide mental health counseling and may recommend psychological testing or medication to support a complete treatment plan. With our in-house psychologists and psychiatrists, patients can quickly access evaluations and prescription appointments, including for controlled substances, and receive valid ESA (emotional support animal) letters and FMLA (Family and Medical Leave) documentation.
Covered by Insurance
Most insurance policies cover mental health therapy, so visits typically cost a copay, usually between $0 and $40 per visit. Our mental health therapy providers are in-network with Blue Cross/Blue Shield (Anthem & CareFirst). Some are in-network with Cigna (Evernorth) and United (Optum). Please visit our insurance and billing page for more information about insurance coverage at Washington Nutrition and Counseling Group

Book OnlineHow Telehealth Works
Our mental health therapy and most of our psychiatry medication management appointments are conducted by telehealth, available exclusively to patients in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Our psychiatrists can also meet you at one of our office locations. Our secure HIPAA-compliant platform allows you to connect with licensed therapists so you can receive high-quality personalized support.
You can maximize the benefits of mental health therapy by:
- Ensuring you have a stable internet connection for video sessions
- Creating a private, quiet space free from distractions
- Familiarizing yourself with the technology before your first session
- Communicating openly with your provider about any concerns or technical difficulties
FAQs
Q. What happens during my first therapy session?
A. In your first session, your therapist will get to know you — your concerns, your goals, and what you’d like help with. It’s a comfortable conversation where you can share as much or as little as you’d like. Together, you’ll start creating a plan that feels right for you.
Q. How often should I come to therapy?
A. Most people see their therapist weekly to build momentum and see progress. We recommend scheduling a reoccurring time to meet with your therapist each week.
Q. How do I message my therapist ?
A. To ensure insurance coverage, visits with a dietitian nutritionist cannot be scheduled on the same day as appointments with other providers. Most insurance will only cover one visit per day.
Q. Do therapists prescribe medication?
A. Our licensed therapists provide talk therapy and emotional support. If medication might help, we can connect you with one of our trusted psychiatric providers to coordinate care.
Q. Can I switch therapists if I don’t feel it’s a good fit?
A. Absolutely. A strong connection with your therapist is key to progress. If you ever feel your therapist isn’t the right match, just let us know — we’ll help you find someone who better fits your needs and style.
Mental Health Covered By Insurance
Mental health therapy is typically covered by insurance when patients see one of our providers because they are all in network with Blue Cross/Blue Shield ( Anthem and Care First ) and some are in network with Aetna and United . Only a co pay is due at the time of service . Please note that some ancillary services, such as letters and forms are self pay . Please visit our insurance and billing page for more information about insurance coverage at our practice.
